Here are the common sign industry terms (jargon) associated with CNC routing signage and displays. CNC technology is common in other manufacturing processes and industries, so terms in this list may be slightly different depending on industry, but the definitions are universal. CNC - Computer Numerically Controlled CNC Router Table - a computer guided machine used for manufacturing parts accurate to 1/50,000th of an inch. CNC Routing - the process of manufacturing components using computer guided routing machinery. Channel Cut - (trench cut or hog-out) clearing out areas at different depths. Flat Cut - (die cut or outline) cutting shapes out of a material sheet, the rest is discarded. Punch-Thru - cutting shapes out of a material sheet, discarding the shapes. Prismatic - v-beveling letters as individual elements to attach to another substrate. V-Groove - embossing v-bevel prismatic letters into a solid substrate. Pin Mount - (stud mount) using the cnc machinery to pre-drill holes for accurate mounting elements. Float Mount - leaving a gap between pin mount elements to appear to "float." 3-D Modeling - using cnc technology to create a true three dimensional object. CNC Routing Illustrations >
